So moving house is fun, right?
Um... no. Ste and I closed on the house on Monday last. Well, I did - Ste is playing war games in the desert at the moment, training for more exotic climes. He's having a blast - I got to sign millions of pieces of paper with his power of attorney.
Sooo... we get the keys, have a bit of a drama over whether or not there are termites in the deck, whether HUD knew about them and did nothing, or whether they sorted it out and didn't put the certification in the closing packet - yep, it's the last one. No termites.
The nice guy put on the electric on Monday but we can't turn on the power until the water heater is full. I could turn on all but that circuit if I knew which one was which - no-one has written in the breaker box. So no lights yet in the basement.
The water went on... and came out of the washing machine connection all over the mud room floor. Screwed down the tap, mopped up and could still hear running water. The toilet in the main bathroom is running as the flush thingy is broken and stopping the trap from closing. OK, fixed that. But I can still hear running water! I went down to the basement and there is water pumping out from the bottom of the water heater, about an inch off the floor. Can't put a bucket under it, don't know where the mains shutoff is. In a panic, I called the water board back and asked them to please send the guy back to shut it off from outside. This very calm and helpful man not only shut off the water, but applied his large screwdriver and pliers to the tap and shut off the tank, then turned the water back on to make sure there were no other leaks! Yay!
So the tank is filling nicely - I open the red tap on top of the tank and start mopping up. Gallons of water on a thick carpet - lovely.
I decided to get the carpet washer from the other house and suck it up with that. As I come upstairs I hear water running again - the bath taps are on. And the hot water washing machine connector. More water over the mudroom floor. Still, it needed a good clean...
I am utterly exhausted now. The carpets have all been washed, but they're still woeful. The kitchen needs a thorough scrubbing and the cupboards need a serious cleanout. I'm off now to pick up a pizza for tea!

I'll forego the flowery diatribe and simply say 'good on ye'. I'm incredibly proud of you. I know intimately the strength is takes to come out of just such a situation. You continue to impress the hell out of me.
I'm home by 5 every afternoon. Let me know when you get your phone on, so I can call you!!!
